Yazbek answers your Questions!
Hello Everyone,
A lot of people have been asking about the availability of sheet music
for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Some folks have even asked me to send it
to them. Look, I can't even read the shit. I swear I've got not one piece
of respectable sheet music from the show in my house. I'm told, however,
that it's going to be available soon via the Hal Leonard company. You
can direct inquiries to them at www.halleonard.com.
I've also been receiving a lot of emails like this one--
Hello,
Please could you tell me if there are any plans to bring Dirty Rotten
Scoundrels to the U.K. ? I think it's vastly superior to other productions
crossing the pond and as I'm not in a position to go to Broadway my only
hope is to see the show in London.
sincerely,
Ian Armstrong
Well Ian, I know there's a U.K. production in the works but I can't remember
when we're supposed to do it. I think we're talking about at least a year
from now. I'll make it happen sooner if you can promise me a big fat hit
in London.
And here's a recent email from an american fan--
Dear Yazbek,
I used to like your albums but now you sold out and did Broadway. You
were cool and I used to see your band at CBGB and Mercury Lounge and now
you hardly play anymore so fuck you. Why don't you play out with your
band anymore. Fuck You.
Brian
P.S.: I hate show tunes.
Good news Brian-- the U.S. tour should start next June. I'm told a tentative
schedule has been booked through the following year.
Other productions and other tours in different countries are also in the
initial planning stages. I'm not sure how you translate lyrics like the
ones in Scoundrels. It should be an interesting challenge.
In the meantime, I'm writing songs for a new album and planning the overthrow
of a small South American country. I can't say which.
I'm also in the process of being convinced to tour a little myself (maybe
in support of a new album) when Scoundrels tours, kind of appearing in
cities where the show has just played. I like this idea but I'm not sure
of its practicality. I think I'm also slightly embarrassed about the inescapable
"Broadway Guy" tag I'll have to use to promote my live shows.
Nevertheless, do me a favor and iIf you're interested, please send your
info in to get on the email list. I don't like travelling but I like the
idea of performing a bit again. so maybe we'll make something happen.
Thanks,
DY
